29th April 2012, we celebrated ‘Sanctuary Sunday’ by erecting a Yurt, a place of sanctuary, inside the German Church on Great Horton Road. With Harry and Micah in charge, it took just over an hour, and really helped develop the Church’s teamwork skills!
Then Will Sutcliff from Bradford City of Sanctuary told us about the work of the organisation, we heard many clips form scripture about defending the stranger, and we pondered what sanctuary was for us.
Thanks to all who helped us out – especially Touchstone for lending us their Yurt!

Tonights JustSpace will be a showing of the remarkable film, ‘Of Gods and Men’ which tells the true story of a group of
French monks during the civil war in Algeria. Compelling, moving and deeply spiritual – it reflects on Christian/Muslim relations and a whole manner of other important themes. Please come if you have the chance!
Palm Sunday – We meet at 12 noon at the German Church before prayerfully travelling to the listening yurt in the Cathedral.
Make Holy week special by joining in with this simple pilgrimage led by Barbara Glasson.
Holy Tuesday – A vigil at Menwith Hill between 6-8pm – meet at 5pm at Desmond Tutu House – please let me know if you can offer
lifts!
Maundy Thursday – Foot washing in the Mirror Pool at 5pm, followed by last supper at the Karachi!
Good Friday - Ecumenical walk across Ilkley Moor – meet at Bingley FireStation at 11.45. Ends with stations of the Cross at Middelton Grange – all welcome!
Ring me on 0784 6099 643 if any details are needed. Get ready for Easter!

2011 saw some pretty hard times for the bulk of people in the UK. Youth unemployment rocketed, and the recession left many lives in tatters. The government has added to the trauma by leading cuts against the services most needed by the most vulnerable in our communities. It has made deals with rich corporations to allow them to skip paying taxes and paid lip service to attempts at controlling banking greed.
But there has been hope, in the guise of the occupy movement in the West and in parts of the Arab world where ordinary people are refusing to allow dictators to rule without impunity. In 2012, the churches must be asking themselves, ‘are we part of the movement of movements changing the world, or are we just watching it happen on the TV?’
Here at SoulSpace and JustSpace, we will continue to meet, worship, pray and act – trying to make sense of the Gospels, and live them out in our discipleship. We will support each other in our personal and political struggles, and forgive ourselves when we get it wrong. Come join us in 2012, 12 noon each Sunday at the German Church in the city centre, and 7.30pm Tuesday nights at Desmond Tutu House, 2 Ashgrove, opposite Bradford Uni. We are only as strong as those who join in with this struggle. We need you in 2012.
